Day 3 of the 28-Day Qigong Challenge.
For Day 3, we are learning Front and Back Moving of the Spine.
A flexible spine is important for good health. A healthy spine has gentle curves to support the structure. This exercise GENTLY moves the spine in one direction, then the other.
GENTLY is the key word for Qigong. "No pain, no gain" has no place here.
Move your spine gently, curving it forwards gently, then back gently. Don't overdo it. Respect your body's boundaries, especially if you have back problems. Ask a medical professional which exercises are appropriate for you.
This exercise also has a Yin / Yang, complementary opposite aspect to it:
As we bend forward, we make fists, bring the fists together, and press them together. We "Hulk out" or tense up like a bodybuilder flexing on stage. As we exert, we exhale.
Pause the breath.
Then bend backward, arms coming up in a natural motion above the head as we gently inhale, enjoy, and maybe even smile.
Pause the breath.
Repeat.
Talk to you tomorrow,
David Burch
